Sewage Treatment Plant Inaugurated

The Sewage Treatment Plant of Anugraha Satellite Township was inaugurated today, 16 March 2018 by the Hon’ble Collector Shri. V. P. Thandapani and Sub Collector cum Sub Divisional Magistrate, Shri. Johny Tom Varghese at a grand inauguration event held at Anugraha Satellite Township STP Site.

The Collector delivered the Chief Guest Oration while the Sub Collector gave the Keynote Address.

The Collector unveiled the Inauguration Stone and also Commissioned the Plant by Switching on the Machinery.

In his Chief Guest Oration Address, the Collector drew on his long association and experience with delivering Water, Sanitation and Waste Management Programmes in various capacities in Tamil Nadu and lauded this unique project in a Village Panchayat, financed, Implemented and Run entirely by the Community. He also noted that the project was completed in record time of three months while similar Government projects might have taken years to materialise.

The Collector also took the opportunity to explain efficiency in household water management and explained the principle of replenishing the aquifers by using brown water effluents in the house itself while the sewage from the toilets could be sent through the sewage network to the STP for processing.

He took time to stress on water conservatism and the need to find ways to utilise the treated water output from the STP. He calculated the approximate usage scenarios of 400-500 houses of the township, average input and output of the STP and used these calculations to show that the huge output of treated water must be used responsibly, possible for good uses such as agriculture. He also brainstormed ways to convey the output treated water by pipes to areas of need, like urban Cuddalore municipality.

The Collector commended the efforts of the community and the association and wished that the efforts are sustained through long term association of the Consultant and Implementation Company in ensuring that the STP operations work efficiently for a long time to come.

The Sub Collector in his Keynote Address focused on how the Association and Community had taken ownership of the Sanitation problem and that this Community Initiated Self Sufficient Amenities Model has delivered good result in the form of the STP and can serve as a model for other similar townships to emulate, adopt, implement and similarly succeed. He expressed his satisfaction and happiness at the success of the STP and wished the Association to take up more civil and community projects and execute them efficiently in similar manner.
